Portland-area Credit Unions Invited to Collaborative Career Fair Sept. 7

During the second week of June, a popular career search engine showed more than 100 active job listings in the financial services sector of greater Portland.

The “talent war” is real. Credit unions’ competition for the best and brightest employees includes big banks, financial planning firms, and fintech operations. But can the jobs they offer be as fulfilling as working for a not-for-profit, cooperative credit union?

Portland-based Unitus Community Credit Union is inviting credit unions in the Portland metro area—from Vancouver, Wash. to Salem, Ore.—to participate in a Cooperative Career Fair at Unitus Plaza Sept. 7.

“Let’s team up to showcase credit unions as a great career choice for people who work in, or who are ready to work in, the financial services industry,” said Gayle Evans, SVP and Chief Human Resources Officer at Unitus. The downtown location, she said, is prime real estate for recruiters hoping to meet financial services employees.

“We have a spacious outdoor plaza, community meeting space, great visibility to working commuters, and close proximity to talent at a number of big banks.”

Participating credit unions will be asked for small financial contributions to fund food, entertainment, and supplies. Each participating credit union will receive booth space where their recruitment teams can meet job candidates.

Editor’s note: Area credit unions are invited to an informational meeting at 4 p.m. June 26. The event takes place in the Community Room at Unitus Community Credit Union, 1300 SW Sixth Ave. RSVP to Jenny Sherman, jsherman@unitusccu.com.
