CU4Kids Day at Safeco Field to Raise Funds for Children

Is there any better cause than helping a child in need? That’s exactly the focus of Credit Union for Kids (CU4Kids), which was founded by credit unions here in the Northwest. Since it became the national Credit Union Movement’s “charity of choice” in 1996, it has raised more than $150 million for 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals across the country.
With that mission in mind, the group invites credit union employees and members to join Credit Union for Kids for great family fun: CU4Kids Day at Safeco Field as the Seattle Mariners take on the Chicago White Sox on Sunday, July 22 at 1:10 p.m.
For each ticket sold, a donation of $5 will be made to Seattle Children’s Hospital. Plus, the CO-OP Network is stepping up with the CO-OP Miracle Maker to match all donations up to $10,000. In addition, there will be a silent auction in the concourse before the game. Discounted tickets are available for $25 or $36, using the promo code CU4Kids at www.mariners.com/cu4kids.
Peninsula Credit Union President and CEO Jim Morrell is the Chair of the Seattle Children’s CU4Kids Advisory Group. He believes the event offers credit unions a great, no-cost way to support children who are ill and their families.
“This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a day at the ballgame in the heart of Seattle’s summer, all while supporting the charity of choice for credit unions nationwide, and helping to build public awareness for the credit union movement,” Morrell said. “We can come together as a community of credit unions to raise our voices and rally our members in a real-life example of people helping people.
Medical debt is still one of the leading causes of bankruptcy in the U.S., and Morrell believes that credit unions have an opportunity to change lives with this program.
“It is at the foundation of our DNA, as credit unions, to engage the community and bring people together for a common good. And what better cause that helping children and families facing serious illness,” said Morrell.
The CU4Kids funds are directed toward uncompensated care—the portion of the medical bills not covered by insurance. These funds provide financial relief to families caring for their sick child. The CU4Kids Seattle efforts are two years into a five-year $1 million commitment.
The Seattle Children’s Advisory Group has put together a toolkit to promote the event to your staff, business partners, members, and friends. Included in the kit are approved logos, sample emails and social media posts, as well as an employee “CU4Kids Day at the Mariners Fact Sheet, and information about how to purchase tickets. If your credit union is interested in purchasing 20 or more tickets, you will receive special recognition on the scoreboard, as well as two free tickets for a future game.
