Nominating Committee Wraps Up Its Work


Your Northwest Credit Union Association and Foundation are pleased to announce two new additions to your Association’s Board of Directors, and one new appointment to your Foundation’s Board of Directors.

NWCUA Board Appointments

Your NWCUA Board of Directors approved the 2017 nominating committee’s recommendation to appoint Jeff Adams, CEO/President Horizon Credit Union, to satisfy the remainder of Mina Worthington’s three-year term, which was set to conclude in October 2019.

Jeff Adams is the CEO and President of Horizon Credit Union, headquartered in Spokane Valley, WA. Adams joined Horizon Credit Union in 1984, and has since served in leadership positions in several areas of the operation. In 2000, Adams was named Executive Vice President, culminating in his appointment to CEO in 2006. Jeff is active in his communities and in the credit union industry, serving on several boards and committees supporting the interests of schools and the Credit Union Movement. Jeff currently serves as co-chair for the NWCUA Washington Governmental Affairs Committee.

The NWCUA Board also has approved the nominating committee’s recommendation to appoint Don Clark, President and CEO of Sound Credit Union. Clark will satisfy the remainder of Benson Porter’s three-year term, which was also set to conclude in October 2019.

Clark’s career encompasses more than 20 years of leadership within credit unions and the credit union industry. Don earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brigham Young University, and his MBA from the University of Washington. He has maintained an active CPA license from the state of Washington.

Some of his professional and community contributions include serving on the Tacoma-Pierce County Economic Development Board, on NWCUA’s Operation Relevance 2020 Taskforce, on the South Sound Together Board, on the UWT Milgard School of Business Executive Council, and on the NWCUA Governmental Affairs Committee. He also has served as Committee Chair for NWCUA’s Credit Union State Issues Group, was the founding chairman of Member Business Lending LLC, and was a board member for NACUSO.

“Don and Jeff both possess deep experience in strategic planning and innovation, which will be an asset to the Board as we continue the Association’s work to improve the operating environment for Northwest credit unions and advance the Credit Union Movement in our region,” said Brooke Van Vleet, NWCUA Board Chair and President and CEO of St. Helens Community Credit Union.

“Jeff and Don are outstanding examples of what it means to support and spread the message of the Credit Union Difference,” said Troy Stang, President and CEO of the Northwest Credit Union Association. “We are thankful to see them bring their expertise to the Board. We’re also thankful to Benson and Mina for their years of service.”

NWCUF Board Appointment

Dan Thurman, President and CEO of East Idaho Credit Union

Your Northwest Credit Union Foundation has appointed Dan Thurman, President and CEO of East Idaho Credit Union and member of the Idaho Credit Union League’s Board of Directors.

Dan Thurman joined East Idaho Credit Union in 2002, where he quickly found his niche working with people. He has experience at every level of the organization, and leads and develops the credit union’s staff to meet and exceed business goals and member expectations. Thurman loves the communities the credit union serves. He is involved in many civic and charitable organizations. He holds a bachelor’s in business management from Idaho State University, and is a 2015 graduate of Western CUNA Management School.

“Dan brings the ‘people helping people’ philosophy to life in his service to his credit union, and in his stewardship to his community,” said Barbara Mathey, NWCUF Board Chair and President and CEO of IBEW and United Workers FCU. “His enthusiasm and perspective are a great advantage to the Board as we seek ways to amplify Northwest credit unions’ community impact.”
