6 Northwest Credit Union Professionals Become Certified CU Development Educators

The Credit Union Development Educator class of November 2017

This month marked the final Credit Union Development Education training program of 2017, held at the Lowell Center in Madison, WI. A total of 47 credit union professionals became Credit Union Development Educators (CUDEs) through the National Credit Union Foundation’s intensive training.

In addition to credit union employees from across the United States, the United Kingdom, Malawi, and Kenya, this DE graduating class included six Credit Union Movement representatives from Northwest states.

The Northwest graduates included:

  • Michael Bishop, Salal Credit Union;
  • Richard Folse, Gesa Credit Union;
  • Traci McGlathery, Spokane Teachers Credit Union;
  • Russell Sawyer, Credit Union National Association in Washington;
  • Kathleen Schilb, Horizon Credit Union; and
  • Tonya Wood, TwinStar Credit Union.

DE Training provides critical lessons in cooperative principles, credit union philosophy, and international development issues while incorporating challenges credit unions face today.

During the recent weeklong program, participants were involved in group exercises, field trips, discussions with speakers from around the credit union system, and were required to complete team projects proposing solutions for credit unions to help alleviate or eliminate challenging situations in any given area.
