Application Deadline Extended for the Northwest Young Professionals Network!

In each of the states your Association serves, groups of young professionals have demonstrated their passion for the Credit Union Movement, forming communities designed to attract, engage, and successfully prepare the next generation of credit union leaders. The NWCUA Future Leaders Task Force conducted a study several years ago that found that most Northwest credit union management positions were filled with candidates from outside the Credit Union Movement, and made a recommendation to continue to invest in developing programs like these to grow talent in the Northwest.

To facilitate greater collaboration among these state groups, your Association has joined forces with YCUP Portland & SW Washington, YCUP Greater Seattle Area, and Climb Idaho to launch a region-wide leadership community of young credit union professionals at MAXX 2017.

Called the Northwest Young Professionals Network (NW YP Network), this micro-community presents a first-time opportunity for talented young credit union professionals across the Northwest to unite their efforts to advance the Credit Union Movement. A total of 18 young credit union professionals—six from each state—will be selected through a competitive application process to participate in the NW YP Network as YP Leads. YP Leads will attend MAXX 2017 from Oct. 23-25 in Spokane, Washington, with key costs such as registration, travel, and room and board covered by the NWCUA and several generous sponsors. A group of “YP Champions” from regional YP groups will work closely with the YP Leads to ensure they have a successful MAXX experience.

What it Means to be a 2017 YP Lead

In 2017, YP Leads will have the exciting opportunity to play a substantial role in defining the direction for this new young professional leadership community. At this year’s MAXX convention, leads will work closely with NWCUA staff and leaders of the existing state YP groups to further shape the Northwest Young Professionals Network, agree upon outcomes, design programming that fits within the current YP community and complements existing state group programs, and identify clear roles and responsibilities.

In addition, YP Leads will participate in pre-event conference planning calls, attend all MAXX sessions, complete an Impact Statement about their experience, and volunteer at MAXX events such as the Credit Unions for Kids Auction and the CULAC and advocacy booths.

After MAXX, Leads are expected to join the leadership of their local YP group or chapter to support their local Credit Union Movement. They also will attend at least one NWCUA advocacy event in 2018, co-create programs to grow credit union talent in the Northwest, and get involved in additional leadership and volunteer opportunities. Visit the 2017 MAXX event page for more details on what the YP Lead role involves.

How to Apply

If you’re interested in getting involved in this unique leadership opportunity, or if you know a young credit union professional who would make a great YP Lead, the application is available here. The process involves creating a short video that articulates what applicants hope to gain from serving as a YP Lead, how this experience will strengthen his or her role and/or department, and what he or she loves about the Credit Union Movement.

The YP Leads opportunity not only offers young credit union professionals another avenue to advance their careers and connect more extensively with colleagues and learning opportunities, but it also distinguishes them as ambassadors shaping the future of the Credit Union Movement.
