Meet Nate Powers, the 2017 Children’s Miracle Network Child, at the NWCUA Auction Benefiting Credit Unions for Kids

7/18/17

This year’s Children’s Miracle Network child, Nate Powers.

As our October 2017 dinner and auction benefiting Credit Unions for Kids approaches, your Association is thrilled to introduce this year’s Children’s Miracle Network child, Nate Powers. Nate was born with a congenital heart defect and a compounding diagnosis of pulmonary stenosis. At our “Run for the Roses” auction during MAXX, Nate and his family will join us to share their journey, and how the groundbreaking care Nate received at Spokane Children’s Hospital has enabled him to live a healthy life.

Read on for stories of patients who continue to benefit from the innovative work of Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, and to find out how you can support this crucial care through this year’s auction.

Liam’s story

Liam is a two-year-old with an infectious smile and a presence that never fails to light up a room. Liam was born with tracheoesophageal fistula, meaning his esophagus did not form correctly, and his mouth and stomach were not connected. Without significant surgeries and the high-acuity care of Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital, Liam would not have lived more than a few hours.

Liam has undergone more than 15 operating room procedures to reconstruct his esophagus, and he continues to grow and improve every day. With the help of many specialists, he is learning to eat, drink, and talk like other kids his age.

Sawyer’s story

Born at 28 weeks, Sawyer weighed just one pound, 13 ounces. Like many premature babies, she faced several severe medical problems. She was born with her intestines outside her body, a condition called gastroschisis. In addition, at just 11 days old, she underwent surgery to correct a heart defect.

Under Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital’s care, Sawyer has overcome many major obstacles, but with each triumph she gains new freedoms. She works with therapists weekly to improve her mobility, speech, and motor skills.

How you can help

We invite you to join the credit union community in raising thousands to help provide crucial care to children like Nate, Liam, and Sawyer during our 2017 Kentucky Derby-themed dinner and auction benefiting Credit Unions for Kids. The auction will run on Tuesday, Oct. 24, during the NWCUA MAXX Convention in Spokane, WA. Funds raised will go directly to eight regional Children’s Miracle Network hospitals in Spokane, Seattle, Yakima, Portland, Eugene-Springfield, Medford, Boise, and Salt Lake City.

One way your credit union can get involved is by purchasing a sponsorship for the event. The full list of available sponsorships—including the $1,000 Enter the Race sponsorship, which provides your credit union with its own “horse and jockey” to showcase your credit union’s name in the event space—is available on the MAXX event page.

You can also enter the race to support Credit Unions for Kids by donating an item for the silent or live auction by Sept. 22. The Auction Donation Procurement Form is available here.
