Congresswoman Jaime Herrera-Beutler Secures a Big Win for Credit Union Industry

Late last night, the Credit Union Movement scored critical wins and advanced several priorities in the House Appropriations Committee’s markup of the Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2018.

One of these important wins involved the Community Development Revolving Loan Fund (CDRLF), which was funded at $2 million last year. The bill would have cut this funding. However, your Association’s team worked with our CUNA partners, credit union advocates in the district, and Congresswoman Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA 3) to advocate for the fund, which assists credit unions serving low-income communities.

The Congresswoman worked with Appropriations Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO 6), to include $2 million in the “Manager’s Amendment” to fully restore funding to the CDRLF. This is a major victory for the Congresswoman and Chairman Graves, as well as their staffs.

Today, we would like to show the Congresswoman and her staff our appreciation for their commitment to credit union priorities. Please join us by retweeting our thank you, and consider writing one of your own.

“Congresswoman Herrera-Beutler once again stood up as a credit union champion and led this effort from start to finish,” said Jennifer Wagner, Chief Advocacy Officer for the Northwest Credit Union Association. “This win was a direct result of NWCUA’s partnership with CUNA and the dedicated grassroots engagement of credit unions in her district.”
