Best Practices from Juntos Avanzamos Credit Unions in the Northwest

The Juntos Avanzamos–Together We Advance–designation recognizes credit unions that have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving and empowering Hispanic and immigrant consumers. The immigrant population is vital to the economy, but often vulnerable to predatory financial service providers. Juntos Avanzamos credit unions help Hispanic and immigrant consumers achieve financial independence by providing affordable and responsible financial products and services. Today, the Juntos Avanzamos credit union network has grown to encompass 70 credit unions in 19 states and the District of Columbia, including three credit unions in the Northwest.

Through our partnership with the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions, the NWCUA is pleased to illustrate how your credit union can achieve the designation during a webinar on May 18. This webinar will also highlight the work of the three Northwest credit unions that have received the designation: Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union, Lower Valley Credit Union, and Point West Credit Union.

The CEOs of these credit unions are eager to share their experiences, and will speak to best practices in serving Hispanic and immigrant members. Pablo DeFilippi, SVP Membership and Network Engagement at the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions, and Alejandra Seluja, consultant at CU Breakthrough, will also present information about the designation.
