JA Finance Park is Coming to Metro Portland—Will You Volunteer?

Help the next generation be financially responsible!

Credit union volunteers are needed to bring financial education to Portland-area students. Will you help?

On February 21 – 24, middle school students from the Portland metro area will visit JA Finance Park, a component of an innovative education program operated by Junior Achievement of Oregon & Southwest Washington.

This visit is the capstone activity to the JA Finance Park program, which encompasses important elements of work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.

During the four and a half hour simulation, students visit the “Park” which is a hands-on learning lab complete with business storefronts, interactive technology, and a full-day agenda of budgeting and decision-making activities.

“To ensure a successful visit, we need one adult volunteer for every six students to assist at JA Finance Park and provide guidance to the students as they plan their budgets,” added Steele Willison, Capstone Manager for JA of Oregon and Southwest Washington in an email appeal. “We need your stories of financial pitfalls and success! Imagine knowing what you know now when you were in high school!”

Volunteers must participate in a 90 minute training on the morning of the simulation prior to students arriving. This training provides volunteers the opportunity to understand what has happened during the in-class portion of the program, as well as prepare for the simulation. The training will provide volunteer facilitators with firsthand knowledge and experience about their role in assisting the students.

The simulation and volunteer training will be held in JA Finance Park, located at the Camp Withycombe 15300 SE Minuteman Way, Clackamas, Oregon. Training will start 90 minutes before students arrive at 9:00 am. Volunteer facilitators will be excused by 2:00 pm.
