Central Willamette Reports Phishing Attempt

Central Willamette Community Credit Union was a recent attack of a phishing scam. The credit union’s members received an email informing them that their account had unusual activity, such as a login attempt from a foreign country. The email then directed the member to click on a link provided in the email and reminded the member to fill out all of the information requested. Both the email and the website were fraudulent communications.

The credit union promptly notified their members and worked with a third party to get the fraudulent site shut down. The credit union is reporting that no member or credit union information was in jeopardy or collected by the attackers.

This incident serves as a reminder to credit unions to communicate with their members regarding the dangers of phishing and how to spot the signs.
