NWCUA Releases CU Sidekick Smartphone App, Putting 157 Credit Unions With One Voice, on One Screen

More than two-thirds of Americans own a smartphone—a group that has nearly doubled since 2011. As we increasingly live our lives in pixels instead of in-person, the growth of the mobile application has similarly exploded.

True, many mobile apps are time-wasters (Angry Birds, anyone?), while others struggle to grease the wheels of productivity. Often, the best efforts bring together existing resources on-the-go. CU Sidekick, your Association’s new mobile app, puts the Northwest Credit Union Movement in your pocket.

Working with app developer, Double Dutch, NWCUA staff loaded member resources into the app while building out messaging and survey functionality on a singular, social-inspired dashboard. Users can find links to partners and supporters, be directed to credit unions and events in their area, get involved in advocacy through CULAC and more.

“In terms of functionality, it’s very intuitive in bringing Association resources to the user, while also giving them latitude to connect with each other in a self-directed way” said Rodger O’Connor, NWCUA Director of Marketing who led implementation of CU Sidekick.

Where did the idea come from? In addition to the continued movement toward mobile usability mentioned earlier, the practical need to reach members during events also presented itself. With the NWCUA Convention on the horizon, members have time to download, play around and familiarize themselves with the app and dashboard, with an eye on October for regular use.

“CU Sidekick allows us to stay connected with our members. Especially during larger events like our annual Convention, having another avenue to reach members to send event updates or share news is key,” O’Connor said.

Members are encouraged to download CU Sidekick, sign in and take it for a spin. It’s available by visiting Google Play or the Apple App store, and searching for CU Sidekick. NWCUA members will receive a password for downloading the app in their email box this week
