Spokane Area Credit Unions Contribute Over $28K to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital

As Credit Unions for Kids celebrates the 30th anniversary of its Northwest founding, Spokane-area credit unions made a special visit to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. They presented $28,534.90, and two red wagons filled with toys. The Spokane community of credit unions has long been generous in its fundraising, contributing more than $1.5 million to the hospital in the last decade.

The funds contributed February 9 were raised at the Northwest Credit Union Association’s Roaring 20’s gala and auction, held during the annual convention last fall.  Funds raised that evening are benefitting all six regional hospitals that are part of the Children’s Miracle Network.

Since December, credit unions have presented approximately $178,000, wagons, baby swings, and toys to five of the CMN hospitals in Medford, Eugene, Portland, Yakima, and Spokane.
The final 2015 auction presentation to a Northwest hospital is scheduled March 24 during a luncheon at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Credit Unions for Kids was born in 1986 when a group of Oregon and Southwest Washington credit unions began fundraising for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.  Fundraising efforts grew each year and in 1996, Credit Unions for Kids was adopted nationally as the movement’s charity of choice. Funds raised in the past 20 years for the 170 CMN hospitals nationally exceed $150 million.

The NWCUA auction is but one event; Northwest credit unions host events year around. More information is posted online.

Editor’s note: The 2016 NWCUA auction will have a Hollywood glamour theme to mark the 30th year of Northwest fundraising. Interested in helping on the Volunteer Committee? Contact NWCUA Community Manager Carmen Vigil.
