Spots Still Open for Financial Reality Fair Extravaganza
Credit unions can join an innovative one-day financial education event that will serve hundreds of youth and showcase the cooperative spirit in the Northwest.

The Northwest Credit Union Foundation (NWCUF) has room for three more credit unions to participate in the Financial Reality Fair Extravaganza on April 21, 2016. The FRFE is made available through an Experiential Learning Grant from the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF).
This one-of-a-kind event allows credit unions throughout the northwest to host simultaneous financial reality fairs to provide needed financial education to hundreds of teens. “The impact financial reality fairs are making on students is amazing,” said Jamie Dedmon, NWCUF Managing Director, “in just one session, surveys show students increase their financial knowledge by 34%.”
Because of this generous grant, the NWCUF is able to gift a complete financial reality fair kit to each participating credit union. After the FRFE, credit unions can use the curriculum materials to host their own financial reality fairs.
Currently, six credit unions have signed up to be part of the FRFE:
- BECU in Seattle, WA
- Generations Credit Union in Olympia, WA
- Numerica Credit Union in Spokane, WA
- Pacific Crest Federal Credit Union in Klamath Falls, OR
- St. Helens Community Credit Union in St. Helens, OR
- Sunset Science Park Federal Credit Union in Portland, OR
- Horizon Credit Union, Spokane, WA
Credit unions will receive training, curriculum materials, T-shirts and snacks for volunteers, and giveaways for participants. All the participating credit unions need to do is find a school to partner, recruit volunteers and secure a venue for the event. One of the participating credit unions is hosting their reality fair at a local library, this enables them to invite local teens regardless of what high school they attend.
Dedmon has created a step-by-step guidebook that will help credit unions host a successful event. In addition to this guide, there will be two train-the-trainer sessions, March 14 (SeaTac, WA) & 15 (Tigard, OR), to assist credit unions in the success of their events.
