Two children’s hospitals in Oregon will benefit from $34,000 generated through an internal campaign at Oregon State Credit Union. This is the fourth consecutive year that the Corvallis-based credit union has sent matched funds to Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. The four-year total contributed as a result of the program now stands at $105,000. The fundraising model created at Oregon State has been nationally recognized.
In 2015, the credit union’s staff dedicated $24,000 out of their own pockets to show their support for the credit union industry with the knowledge that they were also making great things possible through leadership’s commitment for a dollar-for-dollar match to the national Credit Union for Kids program. The 210-member team pledged the record amount to the Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC). Oregon State Credit Union then sent the match to benefit the Credit Unions for Kids/Children’s Miracle Network programs at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland and Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene.
“The Credit Unions for Kids effort actually started in the state of Oregon and spread nationwide,” notes Hein. “Our team has found a way to invest in the credit union’s future and at the same time contribute to the future of kids. I couldn’t be more proud of their generosity.”
CO-OP Financial Services contributed at $10,000 “Miracle Match” to Oregon State’s internal campaign.
“This was so great to see and help make possible through the CO-OP Miracle Match program. In the last year, we have been able to team with credit unions nationally to contribute $3.1 million to Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. We are proud partners with Oregon State Credit Union,” said Nina Kopp, National Sales Manager for CO-OP Shared Branching,
2016 is a Milestone Year for Credit Unions for Kids
As Hein noted, Credit Unions for kids was born in the Northwest. In 1986 a group of Oregon and Southwest Washington credit union began raising funds for children’s hospitals and the tradition grew. Their model was adopted nationally ten years later, and Credit Unions for Kids is now considered the Credit Union Movement’s “charity of choice.”
As Northwest credit unions prepare to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their charity’s Northwest founding, the national 20th anniversary year begins with news that a total of over $150 million has been raised by credit unions for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
