Northwest Credit Union Foundation Wins $20k Grant for Financial Reality Fair Extravaganza

A $20,650 Experiential Learning Grant from the National Credit Union Foundation will help support Northwest credit unions in creating a financial education event like no other.

For one day in April of 2016, credit unions across Oregon and Washington—in partnership with the Northwest Credit Union Foundation (NWCUF)—will host simultaneous, connected financial reality fairs, teaching thousands of high school students the fundamentals of personal finance.

It’s called the Financial Reality Fair Extravaganza. Spearheaded by the NWCUF, the event is slated for National Credit Union Youth Month, which falls in April.

“We are thrilled to get this grant from the National Credit Union Foundation,” said Jamie Dedmon, Managing Director of the NWCUF. “The Financial Reality Fair Extravaganza is going to break new ground in financial education. Thousands of students will get an experiential grounding in good financial management, helping to prepare them for a lifetime of success. It’s exciting to see Northwest credit unions leading the charge, with the support of the whole credit union system.”

The National Credit Union Foundation grant was part of a $100,000 grant round that received 56 applications nationwide.
