Northwest Credit Unions Recognized as Best of the Best

As 2015 draws to a close, Northwest credit unions are taking home honors from many communities and organizations.

Columbia Credit Union was recently honored with the Award for Workplace Excellence by Peter Barron Stark Companies, which every two years surveys more than 100,000 employees from over 300 well-known companies. Only those with over 80% favorable responses receive the coveted Best of the Best designation.

An astounding 92.4% of Columbia employees completed the survey, and the average of those responses put Columbia a full 5.9 percentage points above the Best of the Best threshold.

“We are extremely pleased with the results of our most recent survey,” said Columbia President and Chief Executive Officer, Steve Kenny. “This survey confirms our high levels of employee engagement and job satisfaction both of which support our mission of providing exceptional service. What’s more, it clearly identifies Columbia Credit Union as not just one of the best financial employers in the United States, but one of the best employers across all industries.”

The categories where Columbia shined particularly brightly in the survey included compensation and benefits, leadership development and personal growth, and all levels of management.

“Columbia Credit Union has once again proven their commitment to workplace excellence, as evidenced by their fantastic Employee Opinion Survey results,” said Peter Stark, president of Peter Barron Stark Companies. “We are thrilled to provide them with this award to recognize their efforts and continued success.”

O Bee Honored for Philanthropy

Another top honor went to O Bee Credit Union, which took home the 2015 Business of the Year Award from South Sound Partners for Philanthropy, a consortium of regional nonprofits.

“Credit unions are a cooperative movement, and being part of that means looking beyond our walls to the larger community,” said Lee Wojnar, VP of Marketing at O Bee Credit Union. “This philosophy leads us to support worthwhile charitable and social causes.”

Some of the organizations and events O Bee supports include:

  • Olympia Tumwater Foundation;
  • United Way of Thurston County;
  • Tumwater Farmers Market;
  • YWCA of Olympia;
  • South Sound YMCA;
  • Boys & Girls Club of Thurston County;
  • Habitat for Humanity;
  • And many more.

“We are celebrating O Bee’s many contributions to the South Sound community through their time, talent, and resources,” said Deborah S. Vinsel, President of South Sound Partners for Philanthropy.
