On October 24th, the Port Orchard branch of Peninsula Credit Union was recognized at the Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Business Excellence Awards with the “South Kitsap Professional Services Excellence Award” as well as the “South Kitsap Business of the Year Award.” Peninsula also received recognition for being a Chamber member for 25 years.
“Peninsula Credit Union is involved in our community and has been a solid supporter of the Chamber,” said Matt Murphy, Executive Director of the Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce. “It’s exciting to be able to say thank you to them in this way!”
Port Orchard Branch Manager and incoming Board President Kristine Cowan was thrilled with the announcement. “The team at the Port Orchard branch is so excited and honored to be recognized by our wonderful South Kitsap community in this way!” she said.
“We work hard every day to walk the talk of our credit union philosophy of people helping people. Serving our members, the community, and each other gives us purpose and it feels great for that to be awarded,” said Cowan.
Peninsula Credit Union is heavily involved in its community, engaging with numerous volunteer organizations and community initiatives including the Kitsap County Chapter of Credit Unions, the Kitsap Community Resources Financial Education Classes, the United Way Day of Caring, Relay for Life, and Credit Union For Kids benefitting Seattle Children’s Hospital. Peninsula also provides grants to teachers in need through the Peninsula Educational Grant program.
Peninsula CU President and CEO Jim Morrell and Amanda Nix of the Port Orchard branch were also in attendance at the event. “The Port Orchard team does such an amazing job serving our members,” said Morrell.
He also gave credit to the rest of his staff. “The entire credit union team helps improve our members’ financial lives,” said Morrell. “Over the last year, Peninsula Credit Union has also been recognized as Business of the Year by the Shelton-Mason Chamber of Commerce and runner up by the North Mason Chamber of Commerce (Belfair). None of this can happen without all of the people who run and support our branches and our members. It’s the perfect way to wrap up our 80th anniversary year.”
