Barbara Mathey, President/CEO of Portland-based IBEW & United Workers Federal Credit Union, has been elected to serve as 2015-2016 Chair of the Northwest Credit Union Foundation (NWCUF) Board of Directors.
“I am extremely excited for the potential we have and to be working with such wonderful people,” said Mathey, who had already dedicated 8 years of Board service prior to her election at the Annual Board Reorganization meeting on October 6 in Portland, OR.
Mathey succeeds Steve Wilder, Cooperative Engagement Administrator at Horizon Credit Union in Spokane Valley, WA. Wilder has served nearly a decade on credit union foundation Boards, and will continue as a member of the NWCUF Board.
In the past three years, the NWCUF expanded its role beyond providing professional development and community outreach grants to a broader focus on asset building, economic empowerment and cooperative development. For example, in 2015, the NWCUF launched the Matched Education Savings Accounts (MESA) program in partnership with the Montana Credit Unions for Community Development. MESA helps families save for higher education.
“Just being part of such a great Board serving the credit unions of the Northwest was an incredible experience,” Wilder said, and added serving as Chair “has been an honor and the best experience of a long credit union career.”
“We deeply appreciate Steve Wilder’s service and commitment to building the NWCUF,” said Denise Gabel, Chief Operating Officer of the Northwest Credit Union Association and Executive Director of the NWCUF. “Barbara Mathey’s leadership, energy and enthusiasm will continue to help Northwest credit unions serve their members, and make their communities stronger.”
“I love the focus of the Northwest Credit Union Foundation,” said Mathey. “It matches my own values, and our partnerships have gone beyond the credit union industry to work together with others who care about improving the community as a whole.”
Shelli Millhuff, President and CEO of Nordstrom FCU, Seattle, will serve as Vice Chair of the NWCUF Board of Directors. Kyle Frick, Vice President/Marketing at Bend, OR based Mid Oregon Credit Union, is the 2015-2016 Treasurer, and Jane Parker, Human Resource Director, Woodstone Credit Union in Federal Way, WA, continues to serve as Secretary to the Board.
