An overview of how The Cooperative Trust helps credit unions build the next generation of leaders.

We want you to attend CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (CUNA GAC) in Washington D.C., February 21–25. Thanks to the support of our advocacy-minded credit unions, we’ll even pay for it!

The NWCUA Grassroots Grant Fund is offering one $2,500 grant and five $1,000 grants to help pay for your trip to D.C. this February. CUNA GAC is the premier national credit union advocacy event, and is the best annual chance for building credit union relationships on the national level. The credit unions of Oregon and Washington have established the Grassroots Grant Fund to help advocates lend their voice to the cause.

Crash the GAC

Through CUNA and The Cooperative Trust, credit union advocates 35 and younger also have the chance to “Crash the GAC.” One young professional will be selected from each state—plus one from the District of Columbia and one “wildcard”—to receive a free registration to CUNA GAC, plus an intensive program woven through the conference just for them.

“The Cooperative Trust Crash events give young adults the opportunity to experience the power of the credit union movement in a dynamic, eye-opening environment,” says James Marshall, Manager of The Cooperative Trust. “Selected participants for Crash the GAC 2016 will return to their credit unions full of ideas, new industry connections, and the motivation to create positive change.”

This year, prospective Crashers, as those selected are called, are required to submit a 60-second video to apply, in lieu of the essays of previous years. Applications are due by October 31.

“My first day back in the office I had a voicemail from a CEO I had met, who called just to hear about my experience,” said Will Horlen, Marketing Research Coordinator at STCU, about his return from “crashing” CUNA’s 2015 GAC.

Crashers are provided with a full registration to CUNA GAC and the Crash the GAC program. All other costs are the responsibility of the crasher and/or his or her credit union.

Crashers can apply for Grassroots Grant Fund scholarships in order to cover their travel and/or accommodations. For more information on Grassroots Grant Fund scholarships and Crash the GAC, contact Samantha Beeler at sbeeler@nwcua.org or 503.350.2218.
