Last week, when CUNA President and CEO Jim Nussle hit send on his recent ‘Nussle Report’ email, it was the culmination of a dynamic first year leading the National Association.
“I’ve been listening and learning from you about what you want from CUNA,” he wrote. “I’ve heard you. A number of changes have already been made this year as we implement our strategic plan. We are moving forward with even more to meet and exceed your expectations.”
He outlined several important changes happening at CUNA. And next Tuesday afternoon, right on the heels of these big announcements, Nussle will address Northwest credit unions from the stage of the Northwest Credit Union Association’s Amplify Convention in Portland, Oregon.
The changes outlined by Nussle include:
- Expense Reduction: So far in 2015 CUNA has cut $1.4 million from its budgeted expenses;
- Dues Reduction: CUNA will reduce membership dues in 2016; and
- Expanded Membership: Nussle has proposed creating two new non-voting membership classes.
He also highlighted the cooperation of CUNA and state credit union leagues saying, “It is an unmatched credit union advocacy force that delivers results.” He said that CUNA and the leagues are committed to a new level of cooperation in service of credit unions.
“The question all of us at CUNA—beginning with me—are asking is this,” wrote Nussle. “If our goal is for you to be Americans’ best financial partner, then how can we at CUNA and the Leagues be your best Association partner?”
“We’re making big changes,” Nussle said, “with more to come.”
