As wildfires threatened homes and forced evacuations in Washington and Oregon, Spokane Federal Credit Union stepped up to support those affected in their community. They partnered with KXLY News for “Give 4 Your Community: Fire Victims,” benefiting the thousands of families who lost property and were displaced by blazes.
“We’ve booked radio advertising with KXLY for a number of years. Our relationship with them has always been strong. We’ve partnered with the radio side of their business on other fundraisers as well, such as 92.9 ZZU’s Christmas Wish,” said Spokane Federal’s Marketing Director, Susan Cerutti-Jensen.
KXLY broadcasted live from Spokane Federal’s main branch from 5 a.m.–7 p.m., encouraging viewers to stop by and donate. Firefighters joined them at the branch, and funds were collected in firefighters’ boots. And Washington State University donated tickets to the Cougar Football season opener, which all donors who stopped by the main branch had a chance to win.
“Our members were amazing and it was very gratifying to see the generosity of our membership and community,” said Spokane Federal CEO Susan Blain.
The one-day fundraiser brought in $12,972.68, with more donations trickling in afterwards. Every dollar raised was handed over to the Red Cross to support wildfire victims.
“As a not-for-profit cooperative, Spokane Federal Credit Union is made up of this community,” Blain said, “so when disaster strikes we have the responsibility to support our community members in recovering. This fire season has been devastating, and many families have a long road in front of them. We are proud to join together with KXLY, the Red Cross, Washington State University, and of course the brave firefighters of Washington State to support them in rebuilding.”
The Inland Northwest Chapter of the American Red Cross stated, “This has been a tremendous fire season—one unlike any other in Washington’s history. The American Red Cross is grateful for our strong community partners who help us extend our message and provide a platform for the community to support, allowing us to serve our mission to a greater extent. Thank you to Spokane Federal Credit Union for stepping up to support the work of the Red Cross.”
And Teddie Gibbon, General Manager at KXLY, also thanked Spokane Federal, saying, “On behalf of the entire KXLY Broadcast Group, we would like to thank Spokane Federal Credit Union for your incredible partnership supporting the many wildfire victims who were greatly impacted this summer. Your special efforts made a difference in the lives of our great community.”
