International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) is October 15, just one short month away—and we know some of you are already planning amazing activities to celebrate the credit union movement. In concert with the 2015 ICU Day theme—“People Helping People”—we’d like to offer a friendly challenge.

We encourage every credit union in Washington and Oregon to create and/or participate in a volunteer event benefiting a local community service organization. The event and the organization are up to you and your credit union team’s passion.

Build a house with Habitat for Humanity? Yes. Pull weeds and plant trees with the Parks Department? Perfect. Perhaps your team would rather come together to collect donated school supplies for children of low-income families in your community. That works too.

The goal is to get as many Northwest credit union employees as possible—from the CEO to the newest team member—demonstrating the “People Helping People” philosophy under which credit unions were founded.

A Little Incentive

We know you have huge hearts and regularly serve your community just for the joy of serving—but we want to build in a little something extra for you this time. Submit your plan for an International Credit Union Day service event to your Association, and our judging committee will choose one credit union to win $2,500 in valuable consulting services from our Strategic Link Consultants.

Submit your plans for an International Credit Union Day community service event to us by Friday, September 18. The winning event will be announced during our annual Amplify Convention in Portland, October 6-8.

Click here to submit your plan. We’re looking forward to seeing your big ICU Day plans—and working side by side with some of you to celebrate International Credit Union Day!

Shop for Miracles

One service idea is to join Credit Unions for Kids’ Shop for Miracles campaign. Your credit union would pledge to donate $0.25 for every purchase made using your credit union issued credit or debit card. Does your credit union support a shelter for teens or families? Do you support a homeless service organization? Send your staff and members out to buy necessary clothes and supplies for those organizations, and double your service!
