Are You Ready for the EMV Migration? CO-OP Has a Subsidy Program to Help

As the industry is moving toward EMV adoption, CO-OP Financial Services has a multitude of tools to help educate and assist credit unions and their members with this migration. CO-OP is certified with both Visa and MasterCard for full chip processing on contact cards.

CO-OP recently announced the CO-OP EMV Subsidy Program, designed to help its debit and in-house credit processing client credit unions issue EMV cards more efficiently and cost-effectively. At the same time, they announced an additional subsidy for credit unions that use CO-OP for plastics.

“By mid-2016 the changeover to EMV will be in full swing and credit unions need to be planning for and beginning the implementation process now,” said Michelle Thornton, Director of Product Development for CO-OP. “Our goal was to craft a program that would enable as many clients as possible to qualify for the subsidy.”

The subsidy is available immediately. In order to qualify credit unions must have an in-house credit, signature debit or PIN debit payments processing contract with CO-OP. Credit unions are eligible for one debit profile (with up to two BINs) and one credit profile (with up to two BINs). A “profile” is an EMV term used to describe how the EMV chip is configured.

For plastics clients, the subsidy is available for one credit profile (with up to two BINs with the same profile) and one debit profile (with up to two BINs with the same profile). Additional BINs can be added at extra cost. Plastics implementation will be done in waves with multiple issuers grouped together.

Credit unions are eligible to sign up through the end of 2016.
