Maps Credit Union Blows Away Children’s Hospital Fundraising Goal

Maps Credit Union set out to raise $1,000 with their Change a Child’s Life Coin Campaign. Last year the change-collecting fundraiser raised $750, and the credit union wanted to do one better.

Instead, they did over 3,000 better when they surpassed $4,400 during the two-month campaign. How did they do it? Here are some of their creative fundraising tactics:

  • Placing donation jars at all branches;
  • Taking donations at their community shred day;
  • The Maps Community Foundation matched shred day donations; and
  • The credit union made a donation for every person that downloaded its smartphone app.

“With all of these events we were able to blow our goal completely out of the water,” said Mitzi Smith, Maps community development officer. “Our members were extremely generous. At the community shred day we were expecting people to donate their spare change. Instead we had members handing us $20 bills.”

The Maps team recently visited Doernbecher to present a check for the funds and tour the hospital.
