Outstanding Credit Union Marketing Efforts Honored at Spectrum Awards

The lights of the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland shone with new colors Thursday night, as Northwest credit union marketers collected their prismatic trophies at the Northwest Credit Union Association’s Spectrum Awards Dinner.

The Spectrum Awards highlight the highest achievements in credit union communications, public relations, and marketing across Oregon and Washington. This year’s winners included a multi-channel storytelling campaign, a peer mentoring program, and a pedal-powered photo contest, among many other terrific entries.

The night’s three biggest winners included USAgencies Credit Union, which took home six trophies, Gesa Credit Union, which won five trophies and was awarded the coveted Spectrum Cup, and iQ Credit Union, which won three trophies and took home the Best in Show Award for its No Monkey Business Membership Packet, the only entry to get a perfect score from the Spectrum judges.

“That’s pretty cool!” exclaimed Julie Hill, vice president of marketing of iQ Credit Union, as she accepted the Best in Show award. “I have a great team, great members, and a great organization. When everything fires on all cylinders we can do really great work.”

spectrumBrian Griffith, assistant vice president of marketing at Gesa Credit Union, also highlighted his members as he accepted the Spectrum Cup. “They shared incredible personal things with me, knowing that I would put them on television, radio, and the internet,” he said, referencing the My Gesa Story campaign that won several awards. “That shows the sort of trusting relationships we’ve built together. Thank you to our members. You make Gesa great.”

All of the night’s winners enjoyed dinner and a celebration at the Benson Hotel in downtown Portland at the culmination of the NWCUA’s Marketers’ Conference, where credit union marketers networked together and heard from some of the region’s top thinkers.

“Northwest credit unions are masters of connecting with their communities in creative and impactful ways,” said NWCUA Chief Operating Officer Denise Gabel, who emceed the awards ceremony. “The terrific marketing efforts we celebrated here today help to spread the credit union difference and show our communities the value of not-for-profit, cooperative financial institutions.”
