Northwest Credit Unions Bring Home Top Marketing Honors

Thirteen Northwest credit unions were awarded Diamond Awards by CUNA’s Marketing and Business Development Council last month, including Gesa Credit Union, which won the prestigious Best of Show Award for its My Gesa Story campaign.

The Diamond Awards recognize creative excellence and outstanding results in credit union marketing and business development. They are considered the most prestigious annual credit union industry competition.

In total, Northwest credit unions brought home a whopping 48 Diamond Awards, including many Best in Category and other top honors. The winning credit unions from the Northwest are:

  • Horizon Credit Union
  • iQ Credit Union
  • OnPoint Community Credit Union
  • Oregon Community Credit Union
  • Red Canoe Credit Union
  • Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union

  • St. Helens Community Credit Union
  • USAgencies Credit Union

My Gesa Story was a yearlong campaign highlighting eight real member stories with touching, creative videos.

“We were humbled that our marketing efforts resonated with the CUNA judges,” said Brian Griffith, Gesa’s assistant vice president of marketing, “and I think our overall success highlights how using the words of your credit union’s members to explain the credit union difference can be extremely useful and connect with a broad audience in a way that feels less formal and more conversational.”

Griffith said that the videos highlight the deep relationships credit unions build with their customers. “The stories our members shared also highlight the unique relationship a credit union member has with their credit union,” he said. “I don’t feel like this kind of business/consumer relationship is possible with a big bank – again, another demonstration of the credit union difference.”

Gesa CEO Don Miller agreed. “I think what is so special about this award is that the winning campaign was built on the actual stories and experiences of our members,” said Miller. “Gesa’s entire staff earned the award because they are the ones that helped create those member experiences. Meeting member needs and making a positive impact is what we are about. Undoubtedly, I am very proud of the way our Marketing Team captured and presented the stories in an impactful manner.”
