“There was never any doubt,” said Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson after the team’s come-from-behind, overtime victory on Sunday. Today, Northwest credit unions showed no doubt as they lobbed a friendly Super Bowl wager to New England’s credit unions.
The Northwest Credit Union Association offered to bet New England-based Cooperative Credit Union Association, promising that, should the Patriots win the Super Bowl, the NWCUA will send the CCUA some of the Northwest’s famous smoked salmon.
“The last team to repeat as Super Bowl Champions was the Patriots, so this matchup is appropriate,” said NWCUA President and CEO Troy Stang, who made the bet together with NWCUA Board Chair Jack Fallis. “Both regions are known for great seafood and great football. We think our Seahawks are way too tough for New England, but should the Pats somehow come away with a win, Jack and I will send our friends at the Cooperative Credit Union Association a package of the Northwest’s best smoked salmon.”
They sent the wager this morning to CCUA President and CEO Paul Gentile.
“Northwest smoked salmon is an aggressive bet, but we’re confident we’re not the ones who will have to make good on it,” said Fallis. “When the Seahawks repeat as Super Bowl Champions, Mr. Gentile and the CCUA will have to pay up. Let’s hope they can find something as amazing as our salmon to wager.”
The NWCUA’s confidence was strengthened over the weekend when the Seahawk’s victory sealed a win in a wager against the Filene Research Institute, which put a wedge of Wisconsin cheese up against Seattle coffee on the outcome of the NFC Championship game between the Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers.
