Rogue Credit Union Raises Over $24k for Children’s Hospital

Rogue Credit Union raised over $24,000 for Rogue Regional Medical Center (RRMC), a local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital, through its annual November Skip-A-Payment promotion. The total includes $10,000 from the CO-OP Miracle Match program.

Rogue’s Skip-A-Payment promotion allows members to skip a qualifying payment in the run-up to the holidays. For the last two years, Rogue has included an option for members to donate to Credit Unions for Kids (CU4K) on the form they fill out to skip a payment. This year they raised a record amount.

“This year blew last year away,” said Jim DeBoer, vice president of marketing for Rogue. He said this year they made CU4K donations central to the Skip-A-Payment form, giving the CU4K logo and the Rogue Regional logo prominent placement, and used evocative photos of the children impacted by donations in branches. “It’s really hard to walk away from that and not donate,” said DeBoer.

Over 7,000 Rogue members collectively donated more than $14,000 during the campaign. And with the $10,000 from CO-OP’s Miracle Match, Rogue donated over $24,000 to Rogue Regional.

He also said that Britney Babbitt, a Rogue marketing assistant hired about a year ago, was central to Rogue’s fundraising success throughout the year. “Britney took it over and ran with it,” said DeBoer. “She was there to champion it and rally the branches.”

Babbitt, who is the official CU4K champion for Rogue, said that the campaign was personal for the credit union. “We have multiple staff members that have been directly impacted by the efforts of Children’s Miracle Network in one way or another, and here at Rogue we are passionate about making a difference in the communities we serve,” she said.

Britney also connected with CO-OP to apply for the Miracle Match donation, after seeing mention of it in other fundraising stories, nearly doubling the fundraiser’s impact.

This year’s Skip-A-Payment fundraiser beat the previous record by nearly $5,000 even without the CO-OP money, and by nearly $15,000 with it. In 2014 in total, Rogue raised over $38,500 for CU4K.
