CU Direct announced that it would donate a total of $60,000 to six Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals as the culmination of its 20th anniversary “20 for 20” campaign.
The campaign invited credit unions to get out the vote for their regional hospital, promising $20,000 to the hospital that ended the campaign with the most votes. But due to “the overwhelming response” the campaign received, the company said that it will donate $20,000 each to the top two hospitals, and $5,000 each to four runner-up hospitals.
Thanks to the enthusiastic support of Northwest credit unions, Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon placed in the top four hospitals and will receive a $5,000 donation.
CU Direct is inviting the credit union that drove the most votes for each winning hospital to co-present the check to that hospital. For Doernbecher, Fibre Federal and Unitus Community Credit Union brought in the most votes and have both been invited as co-presenters.
Heather Snyder, graphics and communications specialist at Fibre Federal, said that Fibre CEO Larry Hoff sent “daily energizing emails to our staff of about 204 employees, encouraging us to vote for Doernbecher.” Sometimes, she said, the emails would come in at 6 a.m.
Hoff also reached out to the CEOs of other credit unions in the area, said Snyder, encouraging them to rally their staff as well.
“In the end,” said Snyder, “it felt like a personal victory for each of us at Fibre Federal to win that $5,000 for the kids at Doernbecher — like an early Christmas present!”
According to CU Direct, the 20 for 20 campaign generated over 2.2 million website visits and over 375,000 votes in support of CMN Hospitals.
