The Northwest Credit Union Association expressed its deep gratitude this week as Spokane Media Federal Credit Union President and CEO Debie Keesee concluded her service as board chair on Wednesday—though she will remain on the board’s executive committee as secretary—and North Coast Credit Union President and CEO Terry Belcoe and Providence Federal Credit Union President and CEO Shirley Cate completed their service to the board.
“Debie’s impact as a leader is beyond measure, both here in the Northwest and nationally, where her voice is respected and influential,” said Troy Stang, president and CEO of the Northwest Credit Union Association. “She is a steadfast guide, a fierce advocate, and a uniting force across the credit union movement. We are deeply grateful for her two years serving as board chair, and glad that she will continue on the board and as a member of the executive committee.
“Terry and Shirley have each dedicated enormous time and talent to the Northwest movement,” continued Stang, “both as leaders of credit unions and with long tenures of service on the Washington and Oregon boards, and on the NWCUA board. Their contributions and engagement will continue to guide the Northwest movement for years to come.”
During the Association’s Annual Business Meeting Tuesday evening, Keesee presented proclamations of gratitude to the outgoing board members. She noted Belcoe’s seven years of service to the Washington League and NWCUA Board, and highlighted some of his many other accomplishment. “He lives the people helping people philosophy in every aspect of his life,” said Keesee.
She also recognized Cate’s 14 years of service on the Credit Union Association of Oregon and NWCUA boards, and highlighted a number of her many other accomplishments. “Any time there is a call to action,” said Keesee, “Shirley leads by example.”
New Chair and Directors
Keesee is succeeded as board chair by veteran director and Global Credit Union President and CEO Jack Fallis. “Jack is a tremendous leader who will undoubtedly carry the bright torch that Debie has passed him,” said Stang. “We have benefited from his valuable perspective during his tenure on the board and we are excited for his leadership as we continue growing the movement’s influence and market share in the Northwest.”
The board’s newly seated executive committee also includes St. Helens Community Federal Credit Union President and CEO Brooke Van Vleet as vice chair and Harborstone Credit Union President and CEO Phil Jones as treasurer.
The Association also extended a warm welcome to Verity President and CEO John Zmolek, who joined the board officially after being elected in May, and Jim Lumpkin, who joined the board as an interim director earlier this year and was elected to retain the seat.
Stang welcomed Zmolek to the board and applauded Lumpkin’s continuation of service. “With John and Jim joining our team of dedicated directors, I have nothing but the most optimistic expectations about what we will accomplish as the Northwest credit union community. Thanks to our former, continuing, and new directors we are better positioned than ever to achieve our strategic goals of policy advancement, collective action, strategic philanthropy, and growing market share.”
