Credit Unions, Doernbecher to be Showcased During Halftime at Trail Blazers Game

Credit Union Appreciation Night at the Trail Blazers game February 3 should see two wins; one when the Blazers pound the Utah Jazz and the second during half time. That’s when the credit union community will make an unusual appearance on the hardwood to present fundraising gifts to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

One representative from each participating credit union will present funds and donated items designed for Doernbecher as a result of the Northwest Credit Union Association’s Heroes of Hope auction. The auction takes place October 8 during the association’s Amplify Convention.

“Northwest credit unions have given unselfishly to Doernbecher and the other Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the region for decades,” said Jamie Dedmon, Heroes of Hope chair and NWCUA community manager. “It will be exciting to have thousands of basketball fans see that generosity played out during halftime. That’s going to make a great selfie.”

The halftime presentation will be visible not just to fans but will be professionally photographed and videotaped, providing participating credit unions with pictures and video afterwards.

Because of contracted partnership agreements the Trail Blazers have with other organizations, the public address announcer will not be able to use the phrase “credit unions” while announcing the presentation, but will acknowledge financial institutions’ contributions to “Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and CU for Kids.”

Consolidated Community Credit Union in Portland has long been a supporter of the Trail Blazers’ Credit Union appreciation night, and was among the first to sign on for the February 3 game.

“We’re very excited to be a part of the 4th annual Credit Union Appreciation Night at the Blazers’ game,” said Consolidated Marketing Manager Jeff Berard. “It’s a great opportunity for us to show support for our team while also raising money for Doernbecher and creating credit union awareness. Let’s take over the Moda Center and show everyone the credit union way!”

Other credit unions signed up to participate thus far include First Tech FCU, Advantis, and IBEW & United Workers FCU.

“We are honored to host this event once again in our continued efforts to support Credit Union for Kids and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital,” said Trail Blazers Director of Rip City Group Sales Jeff Wilhelms. “We encourage everyone to enjoy a great night of basketball while raising money for some very deserving kids.”

In addition to the Heroes of Hope donations, a minimum of $5 from each ticket sold through participating credit unions’ designated links will be donated to Credit Unions for Kids. Participation allows credit unions to share their designated link with employees and members.

Credit unions can invest as little as $340 to participate, according to Greg Bauman, Rip City Group Sales Manager. Details can be found here, and Bauman invites interested credit unions to contact him directly by calling 503.963.3947 or by emailing him at
