News & Notes: Here’s What’s Happening Around the Northwest

Gesa Credit Union Raises $10,000 for Fire Victims

Earlier this month, Gesa Credit Union announced that it would match community members’ donations — dollar for dollar; up to a total of $15,000 — to support the survivors of the devastating wildfires in North Central Washington. The community responded with $5,000 in donations coming from Wenatchee all the way to Walla Walla. With the credit union’s matching gift, $10,000 has now been raised.

“On behalf of our credit union members, volunteers, and staff, I want to express my sincere appreciation for everyone who answered our call to help raise funds to support those affected by the devastating fires seen in North Central Washington this summer,” said Don Miller, Gesa’s President and CEO. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their homes, and the support personnel who are still working to assist residents in their recovery.”

Donations received by the credit union will be distributed to the Apple Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross in Wenatchee, Washington.

Golf for Kids With Kitsap Chapter Credit Unions for Kids Fundraiser

The Kitsap County Chapter of Credit Unions is inviting the larger credit union community to join its second annual golf tournament fundraiser benefiting Credit Unions for Kids. The tournament will be held Thursday, September 18 at Gold Mountain in Bremerton, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

With only three credit unions in the chapter, Kitsap is reaching out to regional credit unions to help fill out the field and raise as much money for Credit Unions for Kids as possible. They are also accepting donations for gift bags and raffle prizes. Get more information and register online.

Industrial Credit Union Rounds up Food Trucks for Food Bank

Industrial Credit Union will host their 2nd Annual Food Truck Round Up, a benefit for Whatcom County Food Banks, on Saturday, September 27th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.

The event, presented by Ben Kinney and Keller Williams Realty, will kick-off Industrial Credit Union’s 20th annual Feed the Need Community Food Drive. The goal of these combined efforts is to donate over 300,000 pounds of food to Whatcom County Food Banks. One in 6 households in Whatcom County currently use a food bank, with 35% of recipients being children.

The Food Truck Round Up will showcase many of the growing number of local food trucks in the area, a beer garden sponsored by the Whatcom County North Rotary Club with beer donated by Kulshan Brewery, live music performed by SpaceBand, and more! Presale tickets are available now at all Industrial Credit Union branches for $10. Presale tickets include entry to the event, five truck bucks (good for food and beverage purchases at the event) and one free raffle ticket. All proceeds will go to Whatcom County Food Banks.
