Communications Evangelist Joins NWCUA by way of Uganda Nonprofit

James Pearson has joined the Northwest Credit Union Association team as the Member Communications Evangelist, where his primary responsibility will be amplifying the credit union story. In this role, Pearson will manage Anthem, the weekly newsletter and daily blog.

Pearson brings a unique blend of nonprofit advocacy, journalistic experience, and economic education to the position.

Most recently, Pearson led a humanitarian business he co-founded in East Africa. Ember Arts empowered war-affected women in Uganda to produce craft jewelry, which is sold internationally and ultimately helps the employees support their families. Pearson put his marketing and multimedia storytelling skills to work to raise awareness about Ember Arts, expanding the marketplace for its products. Pearson’s eight-year stint in Uganda also included positions as a social marketing director and program coordinator for other nonprofits.

Prior to joining the NWCUA team, Pearson wrote for several publications in Oklahoma. He holds a Business Economics degree from UCLA.

“James’ affinity for collaboration and storytelling, along with his economic background, make him a perfect fit for the credit union movement,” said Lynn Heider, vice president of communications and public relations for the NWCUA.

“I’m fascinated by the credit union movement,” said Pearson.
