News & Notes: Here’s What’s Happening Around the Northwest

WECU Names New CEO

After 41 years as president and CEO of Whatcom Educational Credit Union (WECU), Wayne Langei will retire at the end of this month. He will be succeeded by Jennifer Kutcher, who has been with WECU for 16 years and currently serves as executive vice president and chief lending officer.

Since joining WECU in 1973, Langei has led the growth of WECU from three employees to 330, and from one million dollars in assets to over a billion. He plans to stay on as a consultant through January of 2015.

“We thank Wayne for his 41 outstanding years of dedicated service as President/CEO. He is leaving WECU well-positioned for even greater success in the future,” stated Phil Isle, WECU board chair.

The WECU board began succession planning six years ago, and had narrowed the field to three internal candidates. Kutcher, who is a graduate of Western Washington University and has earned the CUES Certified Chief Executive distinction, was chosen after completing a rigorous training process.

“I am very happy with the board’s decision to select Jennifer Kutcher as my successor,” said Langei. “Jennifer’s knowledge, experience, values and commitment to WECU and our members will help shape a new and exciting future, remaining safe and secure for generations to come.”

Gina Dines, a seven year veteran of the credit union who recently served as the Clatskanie branch’s assistant manager, will step up to fill the managerial role. Jennifer Martinez, a new hire coming from 10 years at Bank of America, will take over the duties of assistant branch manager.
