Oregon Community Credit Union Raises Over $5,000 for CMNH  through CULAC Donation Matching

Last Thursday, Oregon Community Credit Union wrote a big check. But this was a check they were happy to write. After a two-week campaign in which the credit union matched employee contributions to CULAC dollar-for-dollar with donations to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH), Oregon Community gave a check for $5,578 to CMNH.

“Oregon Community Credit Union took a new approach to CULAC fundraising this year,” said Cherie Kistner, Oregon Community’s marketing manager, “issuing a challenge to employees they couldn’t pass up.”

After last year, in which 42 Oregon Community employees donated about $2,000 to CULAC, Mandy Jones, the credit union’s CEO, set a goal for this year’s campaign of 87 employees participating and $3,000 raised and matched.

The campaign exceeded even those expectations, with 109 employees donating to CUNA and over $5,000 raised and matched for CMNH.

Alexa Sharps, the Children’s Miracle Network director at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Foundation, was on hand to receive the check. “Oregon Community Credit Union and their employees are an outstanding partner for Children’s Miracle Network who care about their community and everyone they touch,” she said. “We are constantly amazed by their generosity and dedication, going above and beyond.”

The idea to match CUNA donations with contribution to CMNH originated with OSU Federal Credit Union in 2012. Rick Hein, OSU Federal’s CEO, came up with the idea, and Co-op Financial Services offered to second the match up to $10,000. The credit union raised $12,000 that year, and thanks to the second match from Co-op the donation to CMNH was over $20,000.

They have continued the program every year, and by the end of this 2014 they expect their donations to CMNH through this program to top $70,000 in total.
