NCUA Board to Vote on Vice Chair

On August 4, National Credit Union Administration Chair Debbie Matz designated Rick Mestger as Vice Chair of the three-person board “effective immediately.” The designation, as it turns out, isn’t as automatic as it sounded in the agency’s news release.
Questions were raised as to whether the Chairman should make such appointments without a full board vote.
By Friday morning, the NCUA’s Public Affairs Specialist John Fairbanks confirmed that Chairman Matz agreed to bring the designation before the board.
“The Board is going to take action to affirm the designation,” said Fairbanks. He indicated the action could come either in the form of a formal vote or “a notation vote.”
The next meeting of the board is in September.
