DFI Granted Five-Year Reaccreditation

The Washington Department of Financial Institutions (DFI), which supervises 62 state-chartered credit unions with combined assets of nearly $36 billion, received an important acknowledgement from the National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS).

In granting the regulator a five-year reaccreditation, NASCUS President and CEO Mary Martha Fortney lauded the DFI for its “ongoing commitment to supervisory excellence” and congratulated Director Scott Jarvis and Division of Credit Unions Director Linda Jekel for their leadership.

The reaccreditation is subject to annual review, allowing the DFI and NASCUS’ Performance Standards Committee to measure progress and performance.

The reaccreditation process is rigorous; a regulatory agency’s qualifications are first evaluated by an accreditation review team, followed by an intense three day, on site scrutiny of agency programs and performance.

To date this year, state regulatory agencies in Alabama, California, Massachusetts and Michigan have also been reaccredited.
