OSU Federal Partners with Corvallis Police to Prevent ID Theft

The June 21 event will be the second of three OSU Federal shred Days this year; the first event in April served nearly 400 people.

OSU Federal, Your Community Credit Union, is partnering with the Corvallis Police Department in sponsoring a document shred day on June 21. The event is free to consumers and is scheduled to take place at the Benton County Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Corvallis Police will have a presence to help educate residents on ways to prevent identity theft.

OSU Federal has invited residents to bring documents such as old checks or other outdated material containing personal information. The materials will be securely shredded on-site, and drive up service is being offered.

Corvallis Police Captain Dave Henslee commends OSU Federal for the service the shred day will provide the community.

“The City of Corvallis Police Department often witnesses the negative impacts of identity theft on citizens in our community,” Henslee said. “Eliminating the possibility of personal information falling into the wrong hands is the first, and most critical, step in reducing identity theft.”

This will be the second of three 2014 OSU Federal shred day events. The first attracted a record 390 cars that were quickly served at the North Albany Village April 19. The final shred day will be held September 13 at the Safeway-based OSU Federal branch in Keizer.
