Spectrum Marketing Awards Honor Northwest Credit Unions’ Best Work

SeaTac, Washington — St. Helens Community Federal Credit Union, St. Helens, OR, captured “Best in Show” honors at the Northwest Credit Union Association’s annual Spectrum Marketing Awards dinner in SeaTac, Washington, on May 7.  The “Best in Show” award was one of more than 30 honors presented to marketers from credit unions and their business partners throughout the Northwest.

St. Helens’ “Wanted: Friends and Family” campaign turned members into net promoters by giving them $25 bounty cards for each new member they brought to the credit union. The campaign yielded high loan and deposit growth and saw 432 new members join the credit union.

An innovative campaign by Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union, “Keep Your Coffee,” won in multiple categories, prompting the NWCUA to start a new tradition. The perennial Spectrum Cup will bear Seattle Metropolitan’s name until next year’s awards dinner, and will honor outstanding credit union campaigns during future Spectrum contests. “Keep Your Coffee” debunked the theory that giving up your daily latte is the best way to save money and, according to one judge, “challenged what we hear day-to-day with real truth.”

The Spectrum Marketing Awards were judged by more than 20 professionals from other credit union leagues, advertising agencies and marketing school instructors from across the country, the NWCUA said.

Member Access Pacific (MAP) won top Business Partner honors for providing technology, marketing and informational collateral to credit unions to help members avoid and deal with retail breaches. The judges lauded MAP for timely action immediately following the Target breach. A testimonial from Gesa Credit Union said MAP’s toolkit resulted in nearly zero fraud loss.

The Spectrum Awards dinner was emceed by Denise Gabel, the NWCUA’s chief operating officer, and nationally television news reporter Elisabeth Leamy, a 13-time Emmy Award winner who is currently the investigative reporter for The Dr. Oz show.

Gabel and Leamy presented more than 30 awards, including:
