Free CUNA Webinar to Address Key Aspects of NCUA’s Risk-Based Capital Proposal

CUNA will explore key aspects of the NCUA’s Risk-Based Capital proposal on Wednesday, March 19, in a free one-hour webinar that will also highlight the proposal’s financial impact on credit union operations and outline the top legal issues surrounding it.

The webinar is available only to the first 500 registered participants, although it will be recorded and available for all to view 24 hours after the live event. To register, go to CUNA’s Risk-Based Capital Action Center at www.cuna.org/rbc.

CUNA says the NCUA’s proposal could have a dramatic impact on the credit union system. In the webinar, senior CUNA staff — including Mary Dunn, senior vice president and deputy general counsel; and Bill Hampel, senior vice president of research and policy analysis and chief economist — will share their perspectives. They’ll also be joined by credit union CEOs who have reviewed the proposal in detail.

CUNA President/CEO Bill Cheney has called the proposed Risk-Based Capital rule “the most significant proposal to come from the NCUA in years.” The Association created its Risk-Based Capital Action Center in response to the proposal. On the site, credit unions can:

  • Use Risk-Based Capital calculators from CUNA and the NCUA to determine how the proposal would affect their risk-based capital ratio — both now and in the future;
  • Learn more about the proposal in detailed articles and videos; and
  • Take action by sending comment letters by the NCUA’s May 28 deadline.

The site also includes a link to sign up for the free webinar, which CUNA is calling “NCUA’s Risk-Based Capital Rule: Can It Be Fixed?”
