New Wheels for NW Priority Credit Union Members — and for Kids at Doernbecher

Donated bicycles fill the lobby at NW Priority Credit Union; they’ll be on their way to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital soon.

Holiday cheer will roll in early at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

An auto-sales promotion this month is a win-win for Northwest Priority Credit Union members and for the children at Doernbecher, because the credit union is donating a new bicycle for every vehicle sold through Auto Solution and financed through NWPCU. The program is the result of a partnership between NWPCU and Auto Solution.

The promotion, which runs through Dec. 1, had already resulted in 15 new bicycles being donated by late last week. The shiny new bikes are currently being displayed in the NWPCU branches where each loan originated. A tag on each bike displays the members’ name and the type of vehicle purchased.

“It is a way for the members to give back while getting a new vehicle,” says Mark Turnham, NW Priority’s CEO. “It is creating quite the buzz with our members.”

Indeed.

One member who saw the bike display told NWPCU staff that he didn’t need a new car but would like to help anyway.  The member, a cancer patient at OHSU, returned an hour later to donate a new bike.

“We hope to get many more bikes before this promotion ends,” Turnham says.

“A big thank you to the NW Priority Credit Union team that created the bicycle donation event,” says Sandra Westfall, Child Life program manager at Doernbecher.  “I know lots of children who are going to be thrilled with getting a bike for a holiday present this season. Doernbecher staff and Child Life would like to give a ‘shout out’ to all those who have provided bikes for Doernbecher kids this year. Have a great holiday season!”
