Congress Inundated with ‘Don’t Tax My Credit Union’ Messages

Credit unions and their supporters welcomed Congress back from recess Tuesday with more than 5,000 Tweets and Facebook posts—more than double the number of “Don’t Tax My Credit Union” messages sent during the first Don’t Tax Tuesday event in July.

The volume of messages was so great that Credit Union National Association (CUNA) servers actually crashed twice as advocates tried to access the website. CUNA lobbyists on Capitol Hill reported hearing that Congressional offices were being inundated with Tweets, and that members of Congress and their staffers were applauding the effort.

“A job well done,” says Bill Cheney, CUNA president and CEO, “on an incredibly impressive advocacy campaign.”
