Kitsap Chapter Invites Colleagues to Tee Off for Credit Unions for Kids

Encouraged by the success other Northwest credit unions have had linking golf to Credit Unions for Kids fundraising, the three credit unions in the Kitsap County Chapter are collaborating in a first annual golf tournament to benefit the credit union movement’s “charity of choice.”

The Kitsap County Chapter’s tournament event is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26 at Gold Mountain in Bremerton. The dramatic golf course features wooded enclaves, rolling terrain and wide fairways.

“Gold Mountain is a top notch venue that recently hosted the USGA Junior Amateur Championship,” said Scott Prior, president and CEO of Connection Credit Union. Besides Connection, there are just two other credit unions in the Kitsap County Chapter—Kitsap and Peninsula. “Since there are only three credit unions in our Chapter, we are going to need the help of our credit union friends to help fill our field for this first annual event.”

Prior pointed to the wildly successful First Tech annual golf tournament in Oregon as a motivating factor. This year’s “Dave and Dan” tournament raised over $380,000 for sick children. Of course, that program has a rich 13-year tradition.

“We would like to get as many different credit unions represented at our event as humanely possible because it will increase the vendor interest and it also embodies our cooperative principles such as people helping people. Golf can also be a good medium to do that. The key to a successful first event for us is participation by our credit union friends throughout the great northwest,” said Prior.

Recognizing that getting to Bremerton is a long trek for some, the Chapter has arranged a special block of hotel rooms for Thursday night, credit union community events for the following morning, and afternoon tee times at other local golf venues Friday afternoon.

Registration and sponsorship opportunities for the tournament are available online.
