Spokane credit union leaders collaborated to gather a positive message as Congress prepares tax reform legislation. They reasoned that “love letters” from members and signatures on petitions would convince legislators that the credit union tax exemption is important and worth keeping.
The response may have surprised even them—At Spokane Teachers Credit Union (STCU) more than 6,895 people responded. The members’ letters and petitions bearing thousands of supportive signatures will be shared with Washington’s Senators and Members of Congress. Colorful-and heavy-binders documenting Spokane’s credit union love, are ready for each of the elected federal legislators representing the Spokane area.
A delegation of credit union advocates from all of Spokane’s credit unions will meet in person with Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-5) on Aug. 22. Meetings have also been scheduled with key staffers for Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell over the next two weeks.
