Metsger to Take NCUA Oath Aug. 23

Former Oregon State Senator Rick Metsger will be sworn in as a member of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) board on Aug. 23. For Metsger it ends nearly a year-long vetting, nomination, hearing, and Senate confirmation process, and opens the door to a demanding new role.

The NCUA announced the swearing in ceremony will be private and will take place on Capitol Hill at 10 a.m. NCUA General Counsel Michael McKenna will deliver the oath to Metsger.

Metsger was confirmed by the Senate Aug. 1. His term will expire Aug. 2, 2017. Metsger becomes the third member of the three-person board, replacing Gigi Hyland, who left the agency last fall.

Metsger has already named a veteran policy advisor to play a key role in his transition. David Shetler, who has been with the regulatory agency for nearly three decades, will serve as Metsger’s interim senior policy advisor until a permanent candidate is hired. Shetler is currently the deputy director of the Office of National Examinations and Supervision.
