Do we have the right to refuse to cash an “on-us” check (a check drawn on a credit union member’s account) when the check is presented by a non-member?
No. Both Oregon and Washington law states that the credit union cannot refuse to cash this type of check, provided there are funds in the account to cover the item.
Additionally, you may still require the non-member to present valid ID before negotiating the instrument.
