Advocacy, Summit, CUNA and Chapter Excellence Awards Entry Deadline Extended to August 1

The impact Northwest credit union communities and individuals are having on the political process and legislation, community service and financial education will be celebrated at the Summit Awards Dinner and Gala during the Northwest Credit Union Association’s (NWCUA) Amplify Convention in Portland October 10. The entry deadline for all award entries has been extended to August 1.

Of particular importance this year will be the Advocacy Awards, in the wake of the national threat to credit unions’ corporate tax exemption, and the victories by advocates fighting off three anti-credit union bills in the Oregon Legislature this session.

“The Advocacy Awards are our opportunity to honor and celebrate all the hard work being done by credit unions and advocates to ensure credit unions thrive in the future. As we work to protect our tax exemption, the importance of advocacy is underscored,” said Jennifer Wagner, vice president of legislative advocacy for the NWCUA. “Please consider nominating your peers who go above and beyond to represent us all with our elected officials.”

Credit unions and their advocates can be honored in three key categories, including:

  • Capitol Advocacy recognizing credit unions meeting high benchmarks for legislative and regulatory grassroots participation in the previous year;
  • Credit Union Advocate of the Year for the professionals and volunteers in Washington and Oregon who heeded the call to action and demonstrated the highest impact; and
  • Top of the Hill, celebrating credit unions that increased their participation in major advocacy programs such as Project Zip Code and the CU Advocate Program.

Entry forms are available online.

In addition to the Advocacy Awards, the NWCUA will present the Summit Awards in the categories of Young Credit Union Professional, Innovation and Impact, and Lifetime Achievement. The gala dinner honoring Summit Award winners on the final night of the NWCUA Amplify Convention is a long-standing Northwest tradition, but the program is being expanded this year to also spotlight all NWCUA award winners.

The regional CUNA Award winning credit unions will also be celebrated during the Summit Awards Dinner and Gala. Those prestigious honors recognize credit union community service and financial education outreach. Regional winners are automatically entered in the national program sponsored by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).

The Chapter Excellence Awards honor groups of credit unions that collaborated to advance the credit union movement in the categories of leadership, education, advocacy and philosophy in action. Those honors will also be presented at the Summit Awards Dinner.

All NWCUA Awards program entries should be completed online by August 1. Amplify Convention is scheduled to take place October 8-10 at the Hilton Portland & Executive Tower.

Amplify registration is open online.
