Rep. Kilmer Pledges Support of Credit Union Tax Exemption

Northwest credit union advocates met with Congressman Derek Kilmer (WA-6) in what was undoubtedly the largest credit union group he has met with since his election.

Jim Morrell, CEO of Peninsula Community FCU in Shelton, Wash. and Co-Chair of the Northwest Credit Union Association’s (NWCUA) Grassroots Advocacy Subcommittee thanked the credit union leaders who attended.  “You all successfully added a NWCUA Grassroots Committee PLUS ONE effort at this first credit union leadership roundtable with Congressman Kilmer in the district.”

At the roundtable, participants briefed the congressman on legislation to increase the current cap on member business lending and supplemental capital.  Other hot topics included the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) impact and “one size fits all” approach to regulation, along with the issue of tax reform and preserving the credit union tax exemption.

Congressman Kilmer let participants know that, “I support the credit union tax exemption and will stand with you.”
