In the past 20 years, iQ Credit Union and Fibre Federal Credit Union have raised more than $8 million for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Each year the partnering credit unions outperformed the previous years’ goals, putting pressure on CEOs Roger Michaelis and Larry Hoff to come up with something bigger and better.
By 2006, they saw roaring success when they established the “Credit Union Charity Ride.” The event gave the two motorcycle enthusiasts and hundreds of their closest friends an opportunity to rev up their engines for Credit Unions for Kids.
They’re back in 2013. But wait, there’s more. The “Ride” becomes the “Ride and Rock” as it will also include a teddy bear drop at Doernbecher and conclude with a jazz concert by Patrick Lamb at Bethany Vineyards in Ridgefield, WA. The date has been set for Sunday, August 11.
Registration for riders and rockers is already available online, but the immediate opportunity is for sponsors to get involved. Sponsorships range from just $250 for logo visibility and online mentions, to $5,000, which lands sponsors in the spotlight with tables available at the start and finish lines, and signage at every pit stop. Unitus Community Credit Union and Auto Solutions are already “all in” but other opportunities are open until July 1.
“Our sponsor support has been remarkable,” said Michaelis. “Without them, the money raised for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital would not be possible. Some of the sponsors have been with us all along and many of them increase their support levels every year. The riders love it.”
What those sponsors make possible for participants are raffle prizes, special concert seating and food at the various venues.
The Teddy Bear pit stop at Doernbecher is new this year. Riders will have the opportunity to buy a “Biker Bear” clad in a bandanna at the registration point. A matching grant from the Northwest Credit Union Foundation (NWCUF) means each rider has the opportunity to present bears to two children who are patients at the hospital.
“No motorcycle? No problem” said Fibre’s Hoff. “You can just come to the concert and rock with us or you can be a part of it for the whole day.”
Tickets are $55 for the ride, concert and gourmet picnic meal. Concert and picnic-only tickets are $25. More information can be found on the Ride and Rock’s website.
