As promised, the candles were lit, the crystal sparkled and the banquet room at the Governor Hotel never looked more festive. The atmosphere was right as 179 people from 15 Northwest credit unions came together for a gala dinner and wine auction April 12th that raised $160,000 for Credit Unions for Kids.
The 12th Annual Credit Unions for Kids Wine Auction raised $15,000 more than the 2011 event as attendees went all out bidding on wines from some of the top producers such as Abeja, Archery Summit, Cain, Caymus, Corliss, Cayuse and Silver Oak.
The Credit Unions for Kids Wine Auction is among many highly anticipated fundraising events sponsored by Northwest credit unions on behalf of Credit Unions for Kids. The event’s Diamond-level sponsors are iQ Credit Union and CO-OP Financial Services. Both organizations’ leadership has roots dating back to the founding of Credit Unions for Kids in Oregon and Southwest Washington in the mid 1980’s. The charity became national in 1996 and has contributed more than $100 million to the 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH).
Other credit unions and credit union service providers supporting the event through sponsorships this year were: BECU, Allied Solutions, Advantis, OnPoint, CUNA Mutual, Red Canoe, Oregon Community, Columbia, Unitus, Team Construction, Autoland, CUDL, Farleigh Wada Witt and FTSI.
“This was one party you didn’t want to miss,” said Roger Michaelis, President and CEO of iQ Credit Union. He called the 2013 auction the “best ever” – high praise for an event with an already impressive fundraising track record. “This is for such a great cause, and once again we had great support from the credit union community.”
Northwest credit unions actively share their fundraising event calendars and fundraising ideas on the Northwest Credit Union Association (NWCUA) website. Please visit http://nwcua.org/cufk for more information.
